Trilingual movie title 1974

While listening old Hindi songs i came across these samples. Bold Condensed Roman typeface where as Devanagari with low contrast version, also Urdu is purely calligraphic in nature. Strange Trilingual Typography from 70’s.

Devanagari Desk

Its been two weeks that i have started to work on Graduation project for which now i am geared up. Other day i was reading CALTIS 84 ( Special issue on Calligraphy Lettering and Typography of Indian scripts) where J.P. Apte’s noted On purposeful styles of Devanagari and other Indian scripts, he connotes  ”the important aspect that an open and square letter is the best model for any type, particularly in calligraphed manuscripts.” He also made form wise groups of Devanagari letterforms. I made quick version of his form wise  groups. This how my desk is looking now with full of Devanagari, a cup of coffee at midnight.

Devanagri inscription from Mahabalipuran from Southern India. I really wonder how many places i need to visit in order to make documentation of Devanagari script.

Nice present from Aksharaya

Wednesday afternoon i received parcel from my parents with full of ready to cook food, masala, home made ‘laddos’ and a lovely T-shirt from whitecrow. Snehal made this lovely note in calligraphy. Wow such a nice day it was. I really like to see Indic letterforms when they printed on different material.

This design is by Hanif Kureshi http://www.handpaintedtype.com/. Feels good to see my one of the favorite letter ‘Ksha’ on T-shirt
